Rebecca J. Carlson has always loved music. She began her musical journey with the piano at eight years old, when her mom started taking beginning piano lessons and would pass on what she learned to her children. When she started her own lessons with a piano teacher, she quickly fell in love with the intricate keyboard music of Bach, and would spend many extra hours practicing her favorite pieces. In high school she sang with the school choir and continued her piano studies, eventually earning a small piano scholarship that helped her take private voice and piano lessons in college. As an adult, she took up playing the harp, started a Celtic folk band, and now performs on her L&H Troubadour with the BYU-Hawaii Studio Orchestra. She believes in the power of music to bring people together, to develop mind, body, and soul, and to give joy both to those who perform and those who listen. She’s been delighted to work as a blog writer for Hoffman Academy for over 10 years, helping to bring joyful music education to everyone.
