Variation on a Theme of Handel, Op.24 (Variation 5)

Sheet music for Variation on a Theme of Handel, Op.24 (Variation 5) by Johannes Brahms. Composed in 1862, the full 25 variations and fugue were based on a melody from one of George Frederick Handel's harpsichord suites. They show Brahms at the very apex of his skill and imagination, all the more remarkable given the unassuming nature of Handel's theme. Presented here is the beautiful fifth variation in the set, a two-part invention with syncopations in the left hand arpeggios. For early advanced students, 1 PDF page.
