Product Description

Sheet music for the first movement of Franz Schubert's Piano Sonata in A minor, D. 915. This vast sonata-form movement gives the advanced player plenty of huge chords and octaves to tackle. The first theme appears in octaves, and its ominous first phrase is answered by fleshed-out chords. The second theme, in the relative major key, is almost a variation on the first. A spacious development section squeezes the first theme for every drop of motivic potential, with a demanding episode setting rapid right hand 16th notes against fragments of the theme. A recapitulation and long coda follow, ending the movement with fortissimo chords and octaves. A compelling movement requiring careful study by the player, but rewarding as a recital piece. 13 pages.
