Product Description

Sheet music for Augustus, from Cotillions, Set I, No. 3 by American composer Francis Johnson. Living in Philadelphia during the first half of the 19th Century, Johnson was the first African American composer to have his music published, and also the first to perform in racially integrated ensembles. He often drew on European dance forms like the cotillion, a predecessor of the English quadrille and the American square dance. This intermediate-level piece is in a lively 6/8 with left hand arpeggios supporting a gigue-like melody. 1 page.
