Product Description

Sheet music for Augustus, from Cotillions, Set I, No. 3 by American composer Francis Johnson. Living in Philadelphia during the first half of the 19th Century, Johnson was the first African- American composer to have his music published, and also the first to perform in racially integrated ensembles. He often drew on European dance forms like the cotillion, a predecessor of the English quadrille and the American square dance. Johnson's intermediate-level piece has an Alberti bass left hand throughout, with a charming melody giving solid 8th and 16th-note rhythm practice. The second section introduces fast dotted rhythms and a da capo repeat of the first section. 1 page.
