Product Description

Printables & Audio for Unit 4 will continue to build any student’s excellent music reading skills and solid knowledge of music theory. All 24 pages of worksheets, activity pages, and sheet music were designed by Joseph Hoffman to reinforce, expand, and deepen the learning in each video lesson.

The Listening Album is another important part of the learning process, and is something that Mr. Hoffman asks his students to listen to every day. This album features fun and beautiful settings of all the songs students will learn at Hoffman Academy. By listening often to this album, students become thoroughly familiar with the music, enabling the lessons to progress at a faster, more confident pace.

The Practice Album features fun accompaniment tracks to play along with as you practice. A great way to develop rhythmic ability, while also learning to improvise! With styles ranging from blues to jazz to folk, these accompaniments will make each practice session a fulfilling musical experience.

The Parent’s Guide will provide you with instructions for making piano practice time effective and successful. Excellent progress on the piano requires daily practice. However, children usually need guidance from a parent to get the most out of their practice time. The Parent’s Guide will give you the information you need to become a successful Practice Partner and Coach to your child as they begin their journey into piano playing.

Additional Learning Benefits of the Practice Album

Students can get a lot of value from reviewing old songs every day. It helps build confidence, musical memory, and agility. However, sometimes students can get bored of doing the same songs again and again, and it’s easy to start sounding sloppy with too many repetitions. This common problem can be easily solved with the Practice Album! Having a track to play along with encourages students to always keep a steady beat, and to play with precise rhythms. It will also help develop musical phrasing and expression.

Improvisation

Another benefit of the Practice Album is that is provides frequent opportunity for a student to improvise, in other words, learning to make up your own melodies, spontaneously, on the spot. Using the Practice Album, students will get to explore the creative side of music making. For example, with the I Have a Dog track, the student first plays I Have a Dog in its original form, then the student has 8 measures to improvise using the C Major pentascale. Frequent practice with improvisation helps students to realize that music is a creative form of expression that they can engage in at any age and any level. Plus it’s a lot of fun!

These materials are absolutely wonderful! I am amazed at the progress my child has made since she began these lessons. Mr. Hoffman has blessed my home with music! Although, I do wish that this listening CD had the last track as a classical/inspirational piece like the last three units have had on them.

My daughter loves to learn online through Hoffman Academy and these materials make her learning a lot more easier. Really great work. Thanks to Mr.Hoffman.

What a bargain for $19! I pay $20 a lesson for my older daughter but I usually make her watch her sister’s lesson because she hasn’t been taught as thoroughly and it is a great review for her. I especially like the solfege instruction, but my girls favorite part is the reappearance of the puppets at the end of the lesson. Our entire family enjoys singing along to the wonderful listening tracks and my little learner eagerly dives into each new song because it isn’t “new” but an old favorite by the time she gets to the lesson. I wasn’t sure about the Mary had a Little Lamb, but we have watched the improvisation lesson several times so everybody (yes, myself included) can jam along with Mr. Hoffman. I love Mr. Hoffman’s engaging teaching style and his obvious love for his pupils – many of whom he may never meet, but has blessed never the less.

Excellent materials. Good balance of sight reading, music theory and plain fun. A very helpful accompaniment to the video lessons.

My two kids (10 and 13) enjoyed many of the scores and although we are now in unit 6 they still play some of the music of unit 4. (it does take a reasonable amount of persuasion to get them to practise on a regular basis….., but it is worth the effort as in the end they are proud to be able to play)

    Great materials, once again!
